EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
This report updates our November 2013 motor grader report. The motor grader, also commonly known as a road grader, a blade, or maintainer, is a construction machine with a long blade used to create a flat surface during the grading process. Most models are designed with three axles with the engine and cab located above the rear axles and third axle located near the front of the machine. Blades run from 8 to 24 feet long and power ratings on the machines range from about 125 hp to 500 hp. Graders are typically used in the construction and maintenance of dirt and gravel roads. In the construction of paved roads, the machines are used to prepare the base course to create a wide flat surface for asphalt to be placed on. Graders are used in mining to maintain hauling roads and in other construction for leveling the ground in projects where foundations need a flat surface for construction. ="http:> ="font-weight:> |
